Small Oak Pedestal Bowl

An oak bowl on a solid oak base unlike my other pedestal dishes this is made from two pieces of timber, in this case a rich and dark oak. The decoration on the base plays on my theme of double profiles in more of a symmetrical representation and brings to mind the visual pun of two profiles being either a candlestick or two profiles this in turn relates to woodturning. The profiles are painted on a ground of oxide red in black. These raised bowls, which utilise small and odd pieces of timber which might be heading for the woodpile, elevate food items providing a place to display favourite things in your kitchen or on your table. The plate is finished in a food safe oil and is washable, and the base is polished and is washable only with a damp cloth.

A lovely raised walnut plate with curved sides and an ebonised underside and on the base, there is painted detail on the stem of black profiles the decoration goes onto the base. ( the process of ebonising timber is to expose it to liquid iron oxide and this causes the wood to darken naturally.
